CRISTINA SITJA RUBIO

Cristina Sitja Rubio (Caracas1972). Grew up amidst the tropical green of Caracas, Venezuela. Studied Fine Arts (BFA) in Montreal, Canada. Completed her Masters degree (MFA) at the San Francisco Art Institute, concentrating in photography and bookbinding. Lives in Berlin and Barcelona, where she dedicates her time in various illustration projects as well as ceramics and printmaking.

Cristina has published more than a dozen picture books around the world. Her illustrations have been selected twice at the Bologna Children ́s Bookfair. In 2011 and 2012.

Selected twice as well for the Illustration Bienale in Portugal, Ilustrarte. In 2014 and 2018. The book Etranges Creatures, published by Editions Notari, which she illustrated and wrote in conjunction with Cristobal León, was selected for the Pepites Awards during the Salon du Livre et de la Presse Jeunesse in Montreuil, France.

Her book ¿Qué Hacer un Domingo?, was chosen as one of the best books of 2017 by the Banco del Libro in Venezuela. The book La Apuesta, written by Laia Jufresa, which she illustrated, was a finalist for the Cuatrogatos Award.
