Manuel Marsol

Manuel Marsol (Madrid, 1984) illustrator specialized in creating books and picture books.

In 2017 he received the International Illustration Award at the Children’s Book Fair in Bologna – SM Foundation, after four years in a row being selected for La Mostra. The awarded illustrations are now part of the picture book Yokai (Fulgencio Pimentel 2017, edited under the name of la Montagne in France by Les Fourmis Rouges) which is written together with Carmen Chica.

 

Marsol received the Edelvives International Picture Book Award for Ahab y la Ballena Blanca (Edelvives, 2014) and won the Award from the V Catálogo Iberoamericano de Ilustración for El Tiempo del Gigante (Orfeu Negro 2015, Fulgencio Pimentel 2016), where he wrote together with Carmen Chica. In Portugal, El Tiempo del Gigante was awarded the National Amadora BD Prize for best Illustrator of a foreign language.

 

Published in countries such as China, Japan or South Korea, his last albums are the book-map A minha cidade: Madrid (Pato Lógico, 2017), Duel au Soleil (L’Agrume, 2018) awarded with the Pépite Livre Illustré as the best picture book in France in 2018, and La Leyenda de Don Fermín (SM 2018).

 

He also illustrated La Metamorfosis by F.Kafka (Astro Rey, 2015), El Gato de Brasil (Ekaré 2016) by A. Conan Doyle, La Venus de las Pieles (Sexto Piso, 2016) by Sacher-Masoch, Los Duelistas (Elephant Factory 2018) by J.Conrad and El Hombre Muerto (El Ángel Caido 2018) by Horacio Quiroga, as well as a few covers for Babelia and some short stories for EPS (El País).

 

Degree in Advertising and Audiovisual Communication. He worked as an advertising creative executive between 2009 and 2012. As a teacher, he gave workshops and lectures in areas like the CCEMx, FILIJ, and CILEJIJ (Mexico City), the FIL (Guadalajara,Mexico), IAGO (Oaxaca, Mexico) as well as at Duo Yun Xuan Museum (Shanghai, China) or Billar de Letras (Madrid, Spain). In 2017 gave picture book classes for One Year at IED Madrid.
